The Savior Rises - Christopher C. Payne I will be perfectly honest and say that this book was just not for me.

When I first read the synopsis, I was undeniably intrigued. I've never read any books about gargoyles and I was really interested in seeing how this one would play out. I must have set my expectations too high because instead of the nicely developed story I thought it was going to have, all I got was uneven writing, lackluster characters, and action that overshadows the main plot.

At the beginning, I was confused as to what the target audience was for the book. The language didn't really feel like it matched well with the content (the protagonist is a stripper, but you won't even have a character say "What the hell?"). It was very awkward to read. In the last half of the book, the language got stronger, but it still was awkward to see because it didn't match the rest of the novel. It's also generally not a good idea to use "OMG" in a book unless the character is 14 and text messaging.

As I kept on reading, I felt like the author kept wanting to add more to make the novel more interesting. Adding different plot points and big action scenes, the story about Stefani's transformation and the gargoyle history was lost. By the end, I felt like it wasn't even the same book I had started to read. I was too confused from the rapid POV changes in each chapter and too many characters coming out of nowhere. It was very hard to keep track of everything and everyone. I ended up skimming the last 50 pages because I couldn't keep up with all the changes. I think it would have been a lot smoother to read if it concentrated on two main storylines. I agree with the person that said it felt like a rough draft. I really don't feel like it's finished.
